Antique North West Pacific coast carved and painted bone totem pole

Superb and unusual antique carved bone totem pole. These were carved by the tribes that lived along the Pacific North West Coast of the US and Canada and were sold as tourist souvenirs to generate income. 

This is a lovely Victorian example and, although most of the paint has work=n off over the last century, the highlighting is still visible in red and black. The bone has gained a lovely deep colour and a rich patina over the years.

On the back there are the remains of some pencil writing which is mostly illegible although I think it was possible to record where the items was originally bought.

The totem stands 8cm tall.
