Intricately carved Indonesian monkey skull Batak(?)
An unusual item. This is a monkey skull that may be from a macaque species. It has been heavily and intricately carved in a swirling pattern that is very similar to some of the Batak designs. The skull has been painted or dyed with a brown pigment that gives it an almost henna colour.
The teeth have been cemented into place with a plaster like substance and the jaw is pegged into the skull so that it hinges open,
The skull stands 8.5cm high and is 9cm front to back.
