Antique real human jawbone medical specimen.

This is a medically prepared real human jawbone that was probably prepared at the turn of the 20th century. In those times, when a skull was being prepared, if it was missing most of the teeth, the jaw would be drilled like this and then other teeth would be set into plaster to create the impression of good dentition. This was a common practice and can still be seen in many medical skulls from this period.

This example was from the from a medical college and although missing the teeth, is a nice example of the techniques used. It has a great colour and patina which has been gained over many decades of handling.
