Bamum tribal clay figure 2

£12.50

The kingdom of Bamum is in the North Western region of Cameroon. The Bamum are noted craftsmen of metalwork and carving whilst the women are skilled in pottery.

These little figures were used as status symbols and used for prestige and are probably early to mid 20th century in age. They were hand made from fired clay, decorated with beads and seeds.

This figure measures 9cm high. Over the years it has picked up a lovely polish and patina generated from years of handling and is in reasonable condition for its age. It is missing one yellow bead from its nose and also missing the two strings of beads as arms.

A charming and really tactile item.
