Real human articulated leg bones antique medical specimen.
This is a really lovely example of an antique medical specimen. It is real human right leg bones that have been wired and articulated to show the movement of the leg.
Judging by the method of articulation and the wires and metal work used I would estimate that this is an early 20th century example. There is a hole in the head of the femur which would show that this leg was part of a full mounted and wired skeleton.
The bones and the wiring is all in excellent condition. At some time in the past, the whole thing has been given a coat of varnish which may have protected the bones a bit against crumbling but also has left a slight yellow sheen. I am sure that with a bit of time (and acetone) this varnish could be removed if desired.
