Vintage Auzoux Paris real human bone articulated knee medical model
This is a fascinating and unusual item. A vintage medical model prepared by the Auzoux company in Paris. The company of Auzoux was established in 1827 by Louis Auzoux as a manufacturer and supplier of high quality anatomical models.
This example was part of a collection that came from a medical college. It is still in excellent condition as can be seen from the photos. The model is a knee joint showing the articulation of the femur and tibia. The ligaments and tendons have been re-created to show the articulation.
The whole structure has been mounted on a black wooden base. The Auzoux label is also present on the tibia and there is also a faint Auzoux stamp. The bone has a slight gloss finish and appears to have had a coat of varnish or similar although this may have been original to prevent the bone from crumbling and could be easily removed with acetone.
An unusual item and in great condition.
