Russian educational preserved specimen real human spleen section.

This is a very unusual item. It is a preserved human spleen section.  I am not sure how this has been preserved, but it appears to be mounted in a gelatine like substance in a glass box. The gelatine looks to have dried out a little over the years and shrunk slightly, splitting around the specimen.

The label says "456 Spleen". On the reverse it seems to translate as "checked out" with a date that appears to be 1978. This came from a collection of Russian medical / biological models and specimens, probably from a university.

The box measures 18.5cm x 13.5cm and seems to have a metal loop for hanging the specimen.
